Russell Stern
Chief Executive Officer

Russell Stern is Chief Executive Officer at Solarflare Communications. He was formerly President and CEO at JNI Corporation in San Diego, California. Prior to JNI, Russell served as General Manager and COO at Quantum Corporation and CEO at Escrow.com. Prior to that, and for over 13 years, Russell held a number of increasingly responsible positions in the disc drive industry including five years at Western Digital Corporation in Irvine, CA where he served as Chief Operating Officer. He has also been with Seagate Technology and Adaptec. Russell started his career at IBM. Russell obtained his Bachelor of Technology in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY.

Dr. George Zimmerman
Founder and CTO

George is responsible for Solarflare's basic technology development and technical direction of it's products. He was formerly VP of Strategic Planning & Chief Scientist at PairGain Technologies. Before PairGain, he was with Caltech and NASA/JPL where he was responsible for signal processing R&D in the Deep Space Network. He is an acknowledged expert in wireline communications, and was a defining force in the development of HDSL2 and g.lite DSL technologies.

Steve Pope, Ph.D.
Founder, CTO

Steve Pope is CTO of Solarflare Communications. Steve joined Solarflare with the merger of Solarflare with Level 5 Networks in April 2006. Steve co-founded Level 5 Networks in July 2002. Previously, Steve was post-doctorate researcher of high-speed network solutions at Olivetti Research Labs, which later became AT&T Laboratories Cambridge. While at AT&T Labs, he was leader and one of the architects of the CLAN high-performance network project. As well as being a recognized authority on high-performance networking, Steve also has extensive experience in operating system software development. Steve holds a first class degree in Computer Science and a Ph.D. in mobile applications from the University of Cambridge.

Bradley Masters
Vice President of Engineering

Mr. Masters brings over fifteen years of executive leadership in high technology to his new role at Solarflare Communications. Previously, he was Vice-President of Engineering for JNI Corporation (was Nasdaq:JNIC), a leading supplier of Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapters and Infiniband Host Channel Adapters. Prior to JNI, Masters spent seventeen years at Western Digital Corporation (Nasdaq:WDC), where he was Vice-President of A/V Product Development and served in various hardware, firmware, software, and VLSI engineering management positions until co-founding and taking on the role of Senior Vice President of Engineering and Operations for Keen Personal Media, which developed Personal Video Recording hardware and software.

Derek Roberts, Ph.D.
Founder, Chief Scientist

Derek Roberts is Chief Scientist of Solarflare Communications. Derek joined Solarflare with the merger with Level 5 Networks in April 2006. Derek co-founded Level 5 Networks in July 2002. Prior to this, Derek was the hardware architect for the CLAN high-performance networking project at AT&T Laboratories Cambridge. While at AT&T Labs, he was also responsible for numerous leading-edge hardware developments. Previously, Derek headed up application software development at Myriad Solutions. Derek holds a first class degree in Electrical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Voltage Standards from the University of Cambridge

Ben Charny
Founder

Ben is responsible for the definition and validation of Solarflare's products. He was formerly Director of Carrier Products at PairGain Technologies including PairGain's market leading HDSL product line and voice & data systems for carriers. Before PairGain, he was with NASA/JPL where he developed integrated rad-hard RF/DSP ASICs for spacecraft and TeraFLOP signal processors. Ben was also with the Ioffe Institute where he conducted semiconductor optics research.

Tim Heenan
Vice President of Operations

Tim Heenan is responsible for all operations of the company. He was formerly Sr. Vice President Operations and Quality at AMCC and prior to that served as the Vice President of Operations for AMCC's Switching and Network Processing Group. He joined AMCC in 2000 through the acquisition of MMC Networks, where he had served as Vice President of Operations. Prior to joining MMC Networks, Tim spent 11 years at Cirrus Logic, Inc. where he led the company's worldwide test operations and quality and reliability operations. Before his tenure at Cirrus Logic, he held various engineering positions at Signetics Corporation. Tim holds a B.S. in materials engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. in engineering management from Santa Clara University

Scott Hughes
Vice President, Finance and Administration

Scott is responsible for all Financial, Human Resources, Legal, and IT functions at Solarflare. He was formerly Vice President, Worldwide Services at Quantum Corporation, a leading supplier of tape drives and storage automation systems. Prior to Quantum, Scott spent over 10 years at disc drive maker Western Digital Corporation, where he held several senior management positions including VP Human Resources, VP Sales Operations, and VP E-Business. Scott started his career with Hewitt Associates, a consulting firm specializing in Compensation, Benefits and Human Resource management. He holds a B.A and M.A. in Economics from Stanford University.

Bruce Tolley
Director of Marketing

Bruce Tolley is responsible for all marketing activities at Solarflare. Prior to joining Solarflare, Bruce was a Senior Product Line Manager at Cisco Systems where he managed the Ethernet transceiver business. While at Cisco he managed product life cycles and launched Metro Ethernet, 10 Gigabit, and 1000BASE-T switch solutions. Formerly Study Group Chair of the IEEE 802.3aq 10GBASE-LRM standards project, Bruce is a frequent contributor to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards projects and served as an officer of the 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance and the Gigabit Ethernet Alliance. Prior to Cisco, he served in various marketing management roles at 3Com Corporation, where among other accomplishments, he launched 3Com’s first Gigabit Ethernet products.  Bruce holds a B.A from U.C. Santa Cruz, an M.A. from Stanford University, M.B.A. from Haas School of Business, U.C. Berkeley and a Ph.D. from Stanford University.
