Solarflare Communications, Inc., a fabless semiconductor company, today announced the promotion of Bruce Tolley from director of marketing to vice president of marketing. He reports directly to Russell Stern, president and CEO of Solarflare.

“I am pleased to announce that, effective immediately, Bruce Tolley will assume the role of Vice President of Marketing,” said Stern. “Since joining Solarflare in October of 2005, Bruce has been a key contributor to the overall business and marketing strategy of the company.”

Prior to joining Solarflare, Tolley was a senior product line manager at Cisco Systems (CSCO) where he managed the Ethernet transceiver business. Formerly Study Group Chair of the IEEE 802.3aq 10GBASE-LRM standards project, he has been a frequent contributor to the IEEE 802.3 Ethernet standards projects, including the IEEE 802.3an project for 10GBASE-T, which was formally ratified as an IEEE 802 Standard on June 8, 2006.

While at Cisco, Tolley managed the 1 and 10Gb Ethernet pluggable transceiver business and launched 1000BASE-T and 10 Gigabit switch solutions. Prior to Cisco, he served in various marketing management roles at 3Com Corporation (COMS) where, among other accomplishments, he launched 3Com’s first Gigabit Ethernet products.

“Bruce has the ideal background to lead Solarflare’s plan to be first to market with 10GBASE-T PHYs reaching 100 meters and the first company to demonstrate a 10GBASE-T server network interface card (NIC),” added Stern. 10GBASE-T will enable higher density switching solutions and lower cost 10G NICs, which combine to dramatically lower the cost of 10Gb Ethernet for data center and enterprise network customers.
