Solarflare Demonstrates Wire Speed Virtualization Acceleration Over 10GBASE-T at Intel Developer Forum

Next level of virtualization acceleration drives the proliferation of next-generation applications

INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM (IDF), SAN FRANCISCO – September 18, 2007 – Solarflare Communications, the leader in 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) silicon and reference designs, today announced that it will showcase its high-performance virtualization acceleration and standards-based 10GBASE-T solutions over copper Category 6A cabling at IDF, September 18-20, Moscone Center, San Francisco.

Solarflare’s demonstration will highlight the company’s virtualization acceleration hardware and software supporting line rate 10GbE. This enables the delivery of cost-effective bandwidth for intensive applications—such as streaming rich media, Web 2.0, data center virtualization and network convergence—that require the next level of Ethernet.

“Solarflare’s demonstration is the first to deliver wire-speed 10 Gigabit Ethernet in a virtualized server environment,” said Bruce Tolley, vice president of marketing for Solarflare. “Our 10GbE products make it easy and cost-effective to implement 10GBASE-T solutions in the virtualized data center without sacrificing performance thereby supporting a variety of next generation applications.”

Solarflare’s 10GBASE-T Server adapter reference design NIC runs on XenSource’s XenEnterprise v4 virtualization platform, offering advanced performance and ease of use for Windows and Linux virtual machines.

“For today’s data centers, hosting a large number of virtual machines leads to an increasingly demanding server workload, which causes strain on the network,” said Simon Crosby, chief technology officer at XenSource. “With XenEnterprise v4 and Solarflare’s acceleration technology, we’re able to comfortably achieve line rate performance on 10Gig, delivering the highest-performing virtualization platform in the industry.“

The demonstration will take place at Solarflare’s booth, number #753. To set up an appointment to meet with Solarflare during the show, please contact Erin Arnold or Katie Eakins at 619-516-2559 or solarflare@lewispr.com.

About XenEnterprise v4
Introduced in August 2007, XenEnterprise v4 delivers an open, proven and supported solution for server virtualization. The solution helps dramatically reduce server hardware and operating costs by decreasing power, space, cooling and system maintenance needs. Offering high-performance virtualization within an easy-to-use platform, XenSource supports both Windows and Linux servers. XenSource products are based on the open source Xen® hypervisor and offer built-in virtual machine lifecycle management, storage virtualization, resource pooling and XenMotion™ live relocation at low price and high performance. XenSource products are being adopted worldwide by enterprises seeking to increase server utilization, support server consolidation and reduce total cost of ownership.

About Solarflare 10GbE Products
The Solarstorm™ Ethernet controller delivers the optimal balance of performance, power and price. Solarflare’s 10Xpress® 10GBASE-T PHY supports distances of greater than 100 meters on UTP Category 6A cabling, 100 meters on STP Category 6, 55 meters on UTP Category 6, and 45 meters on UTP Category 5E cabling. The combination of Solarstorm 10GbE Controller and 10Xpress 10GBASE-T PHY enables NIC and server OEM customers to bring 10G server adapters to market at about the same cost as quad 1G server adapters—driving the widespread implementation of 10GbE in data centers and enterprise networks. Solarflare silicon solutions are currently sampling to switch, NIC and server OEM customers. Pricing is available upon request.
